Member Spotlight - Member of the Month - Ryan K.

Congratulations to Ryan for achieving member of the month for September!

Ryan is a returning member of Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps, having originally joined us in 2008. From 2008 to 2011, he remained an active and engaged member, always exceeding his requirements, and quickly becoming one of the top responders. He left CVAC in 2011 to pursue a career in FDNY. In 2019, Ryan returned to CVAC, just as engaged as before, becoming a cleared EMT, a cleared emergency driver, and serving on many committees. Every quarter, he has exceeded his requirements, becoming an integral part to our organization.

Ryan loves the brotherhood, and family-like atmosphere of CVAC. He loves to go above and beyond, and he loves to help our newer members acclimate to our organization. One of Ryan's favorite things about CVAC, is "helping others in their most trying times. It is an amazing feeling being able to bring hope and comfort to someone when their world is falling apart". Ryan models this well, and instills it upon the new members on his shift. Bringing comfort and hope to his patients during what may be their worst moment in their life is what he is about! CVAC has also helped Ryan significantly in his personal life. In his own words, Ryan has said "CVAC has made me the man I am today. Being a career EMS provider, CVAC was able to give me the tools and training to provide the best care to the patients I encounter on a daily basis". Ryan has taken these tools and training, and is passing them on to our newer volunteers every day.

Ryan's most vivid moment that he has had at CVAC was when he encountered a patient he transported. Ryan recalled that story and shared it with us. "While out to dinner one night, a patient who I transported in the past approached me. He remembered me taking care of him when he was suffering a suspected heart attack. He thanked me for being so kind, and helping to save his life". Ryan shared this special moment with us, and it is one that will stick with him for the rest of his life. Great work Ryan!

Congratulations to Ryan for earning the honor of being our ninth member of the month, and our ninth in our series of member spotlights.

Ryan, I am so proud of you for achieving Member of the Month! You not only exceed your requirements, but you are a huge part of our Crew Assignment Committee, you train and develop members, and you keep our membership engaged with new ideas for fun events! You are a backbone of our organization, and the work you do now will keep our organization moving in the right direction for years to come. I thank you for the service you continually provide to not only to our community, but to our membership as well! Well done. - 2-16-33
