Requirements to become a Volunteer

Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps is always seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and congenial members of the community to assist in its mission. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to help and a desire to learn. Below is a brief description of the membership opportunities available.

Our organization is comprised of over 140 members of the community, your neighbors, united with the sole purpose of helping those in need. Our motto is “Neighbors helping Neighbors since 1967” and we live by that creed.

OPERATING MEMBERS

Anticipated hours commitment: 9-12 hours per week during probationary period

Provide service as members of the ambulance crew (EMT, Driver, Attendant) and as dispatchers. Members must be over the age of eighteen (18+) years and free from any physical or mental encumbrances to satisfy the job description. Operating members are accepted several times a year.

Trainees will be assigned a probationary training class and required to attend class one evening a week. During this class trainees will receive didactic and practical training with their peers.

   

e members will be assigned to a shift to complete their riding and dispatch training in real time with an assigned crew. These shifts are scheduled, within reason and based upon availability, to suit the trainee’s schedule.

Please be advised that the nature of the service we provide, the time commitment during probation, and logistical considerations preclude our ability to accommodate college students who are only home for the summer months.

 

DISPATCH ING MEMBERS

Anticipated hours commitment: 6 hours per week during probationary period

Provide service as dispatchers. Answering calls for assistance then coordinating the response of the ambulances and personnel. General job description includes talking on the telephone and radios, paperwork, computer and data entry. Members must be over the age of eighteen (18+). Dispatching members are accepted several times a year.

 

FIREFIGHTER DRIVERS

Provide service as the driver of the ambulance. Membership is limited to active class “A” firefighting personnel, trained as chauffeurs, in the Commack and Hauppauge Fire Districts. Applicants must be current in CPR/First aid and physical examination requirements. Firefighter drivers are accepted on a rolling application basis as needed.

SUPPORT PERSONNEL

Provide service in support positions through clerical assistance, demonstrations, community events, first aid training, etc… Members must be eighteen years of age or older. Support personnel are accepted on a rolling application basis as needed.

 
 

YOUTH SQUAD
