HOLIDAY PARADE BRINGS SMILES TO MANY
COMMACK, NY The one hundred and forty members of the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps held their 7th annual “Operation Frosty” parade. The event, the brain child of ex-chiefs Karen Moks and Bob Cavalieri is an all day parade of the departments seasonally decorated fleet of ambulances and responders. Members dress as Frosty, elves, Rudolph, and of course Mr. And Mrs. Claus. The Claus’ are played annually by founding member Joe Caruso and his real-life wife Adele.
Many fire and EMS departments hold such parades, what makes CVAC’s unique is the twist they have added. For the past three years the department has turned his event into a toy collection for the under privileged. This year more than 1000 toys were generally donated by the residents of the ambulance district and presented to local charities.
This years “Op Frosty” was a thirteen and a half hour event with sixty members participating throughout the day. Two fully staffed ambulances participated in the event and responded on several alarms throughout the day. Residents at many of the stops provided hot chocolate, cookies, and other foods for the weary volunteers.
Volunteer EMT Phil Carroll served as coordinator for the event this year. “We’re very proud of the work that Phil and the entire team did this year” commented ambulance chief Chuck Meyer “Its really a full year process that goes into planning and coordinating an event of this size. We’re happy to be able to provide the parade for the enjoyment of our community and to help the needy at this time of year”
Information on Operation Frosty and all Commack Ambulance events can be found on the departments website at www.commackambulance.org.
